Back when they were using those kinds of skateboards all the surfers in California would take the wheels off the roller skates and put them on a skateboard deck and make themselves skateboards to ride down the hills in California. That is far from how they are made today even though they first made skateboards that early and with some roller skate wheels.

Back then when they were making those types of skateboards they looked like surfboards because they were long and would turn so quick. Today skateboards are made from more durable materials and can be used for awhile. They sold so many skateboards in that time when they first came out that they had to make or come up with something new because everyone already had the first they wanted to see what the new decks would look like. The new types of wheels would come out before any new type of skateboard would.

Every day people will use a skateboard as a mode of transportation and people love to skateboard. It is something that has consumed the world and the world’s people seem to like what skateboarding has to offer so it does appear that it is staying and getting better.

Most of people see skateboarding as just another sport and you cannot do the sport in most public places other then skate parks these days. It is illegal in most places to skate where they have public property. The real skateboarders see skateboarding as a lifestyle and like to live like it is every day. You will go from skateboarding in the streets to being in magazines if you get really good and take good pictures and videos and send them in to be evaluated by the company or sponsor you are trying to get with. There are so many things that you can do when you are a pro skateboarder. You can travel the world for free because there are numerous contests that take place around the world at different spots and they are held sometimes by the same people or company that sponsored you. So you need to start entering contest and taking video and pictures to really get to the top in the skateboarding industry. So go out buy a skateboard and start trying.

The Ollie

The effect being that your skateboard seems stuck to your feet while airborne.

50 – 50 Grinds

Kickflips

This is considered by some people to be an intermediate skateboard technique. However, if you get this one down, you will reap the benefits of cardio work out as well as a whole body workout. That is, while you are mastering the technique.

* Freestyle tricks involve balancing on some other part of the board than all four wheels, such as two wheels or one wheel, the tail of the board, or the edges on either side. Various ways to flip and manipulate the board in and out of these stances were invented in the earliest years of skateboarding and these form the basis of freestyle or flatground skateboarding.

* Aerials involve floating in the air while using a hand to hold the board on his or her feet or by keeping constant and careful pressure on the board with the feet to keep it from floating away. This class of tricks was first popularized when Tony Alva became famous for his Frontside Airs in empty swimming pools in the late 1970s and has expanded to include the bulk of skateboarding tricks to this day, including the Ollie and all of its variations.

* Flip tricks are a subset of aerials which are all based on the Ollie. The first such trick was the Kickflip. You can spin the board around many different axis, and even combine several rotations in to one trick. These tricks are arguably most popular among street skateboarding purists, although skaters with other styles perform them as well.

* Slides and Grinds involve getting the board up on some type of ledge, rail, or coping and sliding or grinding along the board or trucks, respectively. When it is primarily the board which is contacting the edge, it’s called a slide; when it’s the truck, it is a grind. Grinding and sliding skateboards started with sliding the board on parking blocks and curbs, then extended to using the coping on swimming pools, then stairway handrails, and has now been expanded to include almost every possible type of edge.

* Lip tricks are done on the coping of a pool or skateboard ramp. Most grinds can be done on the coping of a ramp or pool as well, but there are some coping tricks which require the momentum and vertical attitude that can only be attained on a transitioned riding surface. These include Inverts and their variations as well as some dedicated air-to-lip combinations.

You will see all kinds of different skateboards that you may like but there is only one good one that is for you since you can only use one skateboard at a time.

Before you start falling and hurting yourself out on the streets you will need to get used to your skateboard so you don’t embarrass yourself that much and bad.

The other very important thing that you should take to mind before you start to skateboard is how you are going to want your stance when you are skateboarding. You either want your left foot first which means you are a regular foot, or you either want your right foot first which means that you are a goofy foot. If you use your back feet instead and use one foot to put on the back of the tail and the other to push and you push then put a foot in front of the back foot you are a mongo stance.

You will just need to get used to the feeling of using a skateboard and try to not hurt yourself to bad while you are getting down all the basic tricks and things like that. If you still need help I am pretty sure that you can find some help on some videos.

Your skateboard should come with a sandpaper-like material glued to the surface of the board. This is called griptape, and its entire purpose is to help your shoes grip onto the board as you skate. Your griptape needs to be replaced periodically as it wears off the more that you use the skateboard.

Most skateboards have raised nose tail and sides, which is called the concave. The deeper the concave is, the more dramatic tricks can be achieved by the skater. If you are an aggressive skater, you will want a deeper concave. Beginning skaters will need a shallow concave until they really learn how to skate and then can move on to a board with a deeper concave.

The wheels on your skateboard are made of hard plastic, though you can still find old models that have metal wheels, however the metal is not recommended. The plastic wheels are made in different sizes and hardness. The most common level of hardness is one that is 90a. The harder the wheel is, the more pop you can get out of them. Pro skateboarders use wheels with 100a hardness. 97a hardness is good for ramp riding and skateboard parks. The smaller the wheels are in diameter the easier it is for you to perform some skateboard tricks. Smaller wheels will put your skateboard lower to the ground, but when you are starting out you want to have the larger wheels.

Do not get stuck on name brands! You can buy blank boards that have no brand names on them at all. It does not mean that they are bad boards, in fact, many skaters prefer the blank boards to the name brands. You can then customize the skateboard anyway that you would like to and the price is much less than you would pay for a brand name board.
